University of Auckland (School of Pharmacy)
The Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences was established in 1968 as The University of Auckland School of Medicine. Traditionally known for its training of doctors, the Faculty now offers a full range of health and biomedical science programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences consists of five schools. These include the Schools of Nursing, Medical Sciences, Pharmacy, Population Health, and also the School of Medicine
The University of Auckland's School of Pharmacy is young but growing rapidly. Established in 2000, the school now has about 30 staff, 12 PhD students and a growing number of international research exchanges.
Our aim is to rank alongside the world's best schools of Pharmacy. We take an approach that embraces both traditional and non-traditional pharmacy education. By shifting the focus from drug chemistry and delivery to issues such as how drugs are developed, how patients use them, how pharmacists can optimise patient care through interaction with other health professionals, and ethical issues related to practice and pharmaceutical management, we produce well-rounded graduates who gain rewarding careers in a broad range of Pharmacy practice.
In addition to the Bachelor of Pharmacy, we are committed to developing high-quality postgraduate programmes and research.
We are very fortunate to be sited within the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences at Grafton Campus, which has a well-deserved international reputation for the quality of its teaching and research.
The School of Pharmacy is divided into three main sections of research focus. These are:
- Division of Pharmacy Practice, focused on the inter-relationship between pharmacists and the communities they serve.
- Division of Phamaceutical Sciences: Focussed on the molecular mechanism and biological basis of drug development.
- Division of Pharmacotherapy: Focussed on the application and effects of pharmaceuticals in clinical settings.
