University of Appalachia (College of Pharmacy)

The University of Appalachia was created in July of 2003. The history of the University of Appalachia, although short in duration, has laid the groundwork for growth and quality. Many hurdles lie ahead with fundraising, recruiting top faculty and leadership talent, obtaining full accreditation, and growing new niche programs. However, if history is a guide, the outlook is favorable. Since then, the University of Appalachia has raised over $12,000,000 in grants and warranties, received an historical high school campus in Buchanan County that is now under restoration as a main campus, finished its first semester of pharmacy studies, and received over 900 applicants for the 2006 class. The University continues its efforts to set up scholarships, endowments, and credibility with the academic community as well as with accrediting agencies. The University of Appalachia College of Pharmacy is seeking accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).
University of Appalachia College of Pharmacy offers Virginia's only three-year accelerated Doctor of Pharmacy Program, an innovative educational approach that saves students one year in tuition and related educational expenses and allows them to enter the job market a year before graduates from conventional four-year pharmacy schools.
UACP's academic curriculum fosters critical thinking, problem solving skills, entrepreneurship, and civic responsibility. The program's didactic and clinical experiences focus on the application of expert knowledge and keen clinical skills to deliver optimal pharmaceutical care to patients in community retail settings, regional hospitals, and non-traditional areas such as rural outreach clinics.
The University of Appalachia College of Pharmacy (UACP) have the mission to serve society through pharmaceutical education, scholarship, and public service. UACP will provide access to pharmacy education to the citizens of Central Appalachia and to individuals committed to the needs of rural and underserved communities in our country and throughout the world.
