The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland

Pharmacy at the Royal College of Surgeons is a four year course leading to the degree of B.Sc. (Pharmacy). The course fulfils the requirements of the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland for a degree in pharmacy. After graduation and following successful completion of a one-year period of professional training, you will be eligible for registration as a practising pharmacist. The course also fulfils European Directive requirements for the practice of pharmacy.
The course is a balance of scientific and professional training. It is much more than a series of lectures. It is interactive, making use of modern teaching technologies. Specially designed self-learning modules supplement lectures. Many topics are taught by problem-based methods, to simulate real-life situations. At the beginning of the course students receive a laptop computer that provides the access point to on-line teaching.
The College prides itself on its mixture of students. The pharmacy school reflects that. Our intake is approximately 50 students per annum, comprising leaving-certificate students (through the CAO), mature and graduate students who feel that pharmacy is an opportunity for a new career and international students who have always formed an important part of the student body at RCSI.
The College has an important and world-class research programme in the biopharmaceutical sciences and for existing graduates the School of Pharmacy has research and training opportunities in a variety of disciplines, leading to higher degrees.
