The College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences at Butler originated in 1904 with the founding of the Winona Technical Institute. Soon after, the pharmacy department separated from the institute to become the Indianapolis College of Pharmacy, one of the first pharmacy colleges to create a four-year curriculum. In 1945 Butler and the Indianapolis College of Pharmacy partnered, erecting a new building on Butler’s campus.

One of only two pharmacy programs in Indiana, the college is one of 23 colleges or universities of pharmacy associated with independent institutes of higher education in the United States.
