The two distinct academic areas within HNSS are strategically and structurally positioned so that you can easily navigate your way around the School as a whole.
Each academic area is led by an Associate Dean and is divided into teams, totalling ten in all, which encompass an array of disciplines from molecular microbiology to social work. Distinctly integrated, but professionally autonomous, practitioners combine to deliver the profile of courses we currently offer here at the University of Sunderland.

Our graduates are involved in: diagnosing and treating diseases; researching into how diseases develop; and investigating how particular chemicals can enhance healing. Many of them go on to work for top pharmaceutical companies where typical starting salaries can exceed £20,000 p.a. Others are developing careers in the private and national health services. It is not unusual to be offered a well-paid job before you have completed your course, often as a result of working in a company on a placement.
On some of our science courses you will have the opportunity, between your second and third years, to undertake a 48-week paid industrial placement. This will give you valuable practical experience, allowing you to put your knowledge into practice, and helping you to develop a range of transferable work-related skills that all employers want. Depending on your course and your ambitions, placements can be with major pharmaceutical manufacturers, smaller companies, research institutes, biotechnology companies, or local health services.
The main reasons for choosing to study at the University of Sunderland were because it is accredited by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain and also is economical in terms of tuition fees and living expenses.
