Although there are many definitions for this word, one of the most accepted is the act of transmitting a written text from one language into another, preserving the original idea. Many people confuse translation with interpreting; although they seem to be similar, these are two different activities; translation means to transfer written ideas, while interpreting is to transmit ideas expressed orally.
